BBV has a strong track record in engaging with businesses and delivering projects within North West and West London. A small sample of work recently undertaken is detailed below: 1. Hayes Area Travel SchemeThe Hayes Area Travel Scheme which was commissioned by the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Activity - The purpose was to undertake a survey of large businesses in Hayes to assess interest in, and to promote, Travel Awareness; that is the encouragement of the uptake of public and sustainable means of travel in their business operations. The aim was to engage businesses to pledge to produce and implement a voluntary Travel Plan with the offer of help and support from West Trans. Businesses were also asked if they wished to join a local forum in the form of a Travel Plan Network. The target was to engage with at least 120 businesses in a 4-week timescale.
The Project Leader appraised the scope of the task and the range and location of target businesses to be approached. We decided that the most appropriate way of engaging with businesses in this area was to approach each business either in person or on the telephone and seek a brief interview with the relevant manager present. We developed a questionnaire to support this approach. A team of Brent Business Venture staff and consultants then made a total of 30 engagements with businesses, of which 17 completed a questionnaire. Other businesses agreed to complete the questionnaire but this was not possible within the short period of the consultation exercise. Including these businesses the level of successful engagement was 79% which was very high for this type of exercise.
2. Tendering and procurement support for businesses.Activity - programme aimed at existing contractors/suppliers of Dominion Housing Trust to provide advice and training to ensure their contractors and suppliers were fit to supply by having the relevant policies and procedures in place and having a good understanding of the tendering process. Additional assistance included signposting, compilation & structuring of policies and management systems, completion of the Pre Quality Questionnaire and engaging with the businesses.
85% of businesses that engaged in this process were successful in the first stage of the tendering process. Dominion Housing Trust was very pleased with these results.
3. Brent into Work and LDA Music project.Activity - Business Start Up and Employment Support in Park Royal and London Borough of Brent and Business support to micro and start up businesses in the music sector.
4. Fresh Start in BusinessActivity - a programme aimed at BAME clients who had experienced business failure. We supported them to start another business by equipping them with the skills and resources needed to start again. Intensive support for 25 people to re-start a business – 100% achievement
